When, Sportsman’s Best: Snook, hits the shelves this New Year, inshore anglers everywhere will get a most insightful look into the habits and idiosyncrasies of Florida’s No. 1 game fish.

Sportsman’s Best: Snook is much more than your typical how-to and where-to-go type of book. It delves into the history of snook, their ecological base, the numerous types of species throughout the world, and why you can find snook in certain places, but not others.

“I wanted to give anglers a complete look at this fish,” said author Brett Fitzgerald, the Southeast Regional Director for the Snook Foundation. “The marriage of snook with the Sportsman’s Best series is perfect.

Brett Fitzgerald (r), recently recognized as the Snook Foundation’s ‘Person of the Year’, is the author of the soon-to-be-released Sportsman’s Best – SNOOK. You can order a personally autographed copy to be delivered after the first of the year. Click Here to order

Fitzgerald boils down more than a year of painstaking research, including countless interviews, hours of reading and documenting historical data, as well as several weeks in the field with scientists as they studied ways to protect and further understand snook, into a quick and informative read.

“The already successful format of the other SB books (redfish, dolphin, etc) paved the way to really dig into the fishery and gave me a chance to develop meaningful and helpful information.

Further, the entire Florida Sportsman Magazine staff lends their personal expertise to round out a very thorough product.”

Conservation is a predominant theme throughout the book, whether dealing with past and current regulations or simply the best way to handle a fish once you’ve caught it.

“I’m particularly grateful to the publishers, who have agreed to allow the Snook Foundation to keep a large portion of the cover price of books sold through the Snook Foundation website, meaning the book itself will contribute to further conservation in Florida,” Fitzgerald explained.

Sportsman’s Best: Snook is illustrated throughout by photos, beautiful artwork, and how-to illustrations (by Snook Foundation artist Joe Suroviec) that follow the growth of snook to its current status as one of America’s most sought after species.
